The City of Vernon has contributed $500,000 to the City of Huntington Park for the construction of two artificial turf soccer fields at Salt Lake Park. The funding announcement was made by Vernon officials at the April 15, 2013, Huntington Park City Council meeting.
The funding is part of a joint effort between the City of Huntington Park and the neighboring City of Vernon to create a healthier, more active regional community environment. The soccer field project will provide a new public recreation facility at Salt Lake Park, one of the largest public parks in the region. The fields will feature an artificial turf surface to allow for year-round use, as well as field lighting for evening use.
Construction of the artificial turf soccer fields is expected to begin in summer 2013.
