A group of local high school students was given a behind-the-scenes look into local government as the City of Huntington Park hosted its 6th Annual Student Government Day on May 8, 2013. Seventeen students from Huntington Park High School spent a half day learning about their local government through one-on-one conversations with City Council members and City staff. Students also toured each City department to learn about the inner workings of the City.
The event culminated with a mock City Council meeting in which the students took on the roles of the City Council and executive staff. The students carried out the meeting complete with public comments and discussing several items of City business from a mock agenda.
The event marked the sixth year that the City has hosted local students for the purpose of extending knowledge about city government to youth through experience. To see photos from the event, click on the photo gallery link below.
